Word of warning though - I wouldn't apply it in a child'south Easter handbasket. It would go everywhere and you would exist vacuuming it up for the side by side year. This is really for decorating your arts and crafts projects.

Materials to make Paper Grass for Springtime

Directions for making Paper Grass

Gather your shredded paper

I just grab a handful shredded paper from the shredder bin and put it directly in the plastic handbag. To keep the paper from escaping I use a pocket-sized baggie with a zip lock.

Add the dye to color your paper grass

For this step, I used Ranger's Twisted Citron Distress Spray with a lilliputian Mowed Lawn mixed in. Equally you get to the lesser of the spray bottles, in that location is a piddling left over so I added that to the other bottle. It gives a slightly darker colored grass.

Spray the dye in the plastic purse.

You don't have to use a spray stain. I also experimented with some Rit dye that I used for staining bottle castor trees and that worked just as well. Another option is the food coloring that is used to colour Easter eggs or even watercolor.

Still, I don't recommend acrylic paints because that pigment is likewise thick and it makes all the shredded pieces of newspaper stick together in clumps.

Mix the color in with the paper in the bag

Close the handbag deeply. Though yous can get out a petty gap if you need to let some air out.

Now just clasp and smush the newspaper and the dye together. You might have to add more spray or dye if all the paper isn't colored. Just go on distributing the dye to all the newspaper. Some of the paper will take more dye which really makes a nice variegated effect.

Scoop out the dyed paper grass and let dry

Break up any clumps as the grass dries. I didn't have many clumps when I fabricated this batch of paper grass, but I did have a few.

Drying fourth dimension is about a twenty-four hours depending on the humidity where you lot live.

Now add your cute paper grass to your project

Just lay down a skillful layer of glue and pat the newspaper grass downwards into the glue. I used my favorite gum one time over again - Aleene's Fast Grab because it is so nice and thick and the grass adheres then well to information technology.

Another choice for making shredded newspaper grass

If you have some newspaper that is already the color you like, yous can simply run that through your shredder. The only problem I had with that method was that inevitably some white paper is stuck in the shredder part and it gets mixed upwards with the colored paper. And you have to remember to catch the colored paper in the bin by putting a down a paper handbag or a larger piece of paper. That'due south what I did the first fourth dimension I fabricated newspaper grass this mode. You can see it on the Chocolate Easter Bunny carte du jour and the Violets on the Roof house below.

I actually similar the color on the stained paper grass compared to the construction paper grass. But either fashion it is nice to exist able to make your own paper grass specifically for your Springtime projects. Next project is the St. Patrick's house seen in the very offset photo at the top of the post.
